Course description

The Introduction to Manual Therapy Workshop, offered as part of AIM (Advanced Integrative Manual Therapy)—a pioneering clinical teaching model developed by Dr. Sathish Babu Giridharan P.T, MSc —is designed to build strong foundational skills for physiotherapy students and early-career clinicians.

This workshop begins with an engaging overview of the history of manual therapy, tracing its origins across ancient healing traditions and showing how the discipline has evolved into an evidence-informed component of modern physiotherapy practice. Understanding this journey helps learners appreciate the scientific reasoning behind today’s manual therapy techniques.

The core of the session focuses on two essential clinical competencies:

Surface Anatomy

Participants learn to identify key anatomical landmarks with precision, a crucial requirement for safe and effective manual techniques.

Palpation Skills

Hands-on guidance helps learners develop skilled palpation—one of the most fundamental abilities for any manual therapist. Students will practice identifying muscles, bones, soft tissues, and joint lines with accuracy.

Basic Assessment Techniques

The session will also include simple, structured assessment methods to help learners connect anatomical understanding with clinical reasoning.
